Recap of the GOP debate in Miami

Posted

Donald Trump's personality has dominated the 2016 GOP presidential campaign. Policy differences came to light again, though, in the latest debate in Miami.

Case in point:
The topic --Social Security. Marco Rubio said, "Anyone who tells you Social Security can stay the way it is is lying."

Rubio called Social Security a debt bomb. He said he wants no changes for current or near retirees, but a rise in the future retirement age. Donald Trump was pressed on the topic too. He said, "I will do everything within my power not to touch Social Security."

Senator Ted Cruz jumped into the fray. He said, "Social Security right now is careening towards insolvency and it's irresponsible..and any politician that doesn't step forward and address it is not being a real leader."

Cruz wants private retirement accounts for younger workers. But to date policy disagreements have done nothing to dent Donald Trump's popularity. Marco Rubio must change that in Florida's winner take all primary next week or he is likely at the end of his campaign trail.
