WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — (WFLA/NBC) - Pasco County deputies say no one was injured when a school resource officer's gun accidentally discharged in a middle school cafeteria on Tuesday.

The incident happened at Weightman Middle School in Wesley Chapel.

A spokeswoman says the school resource officer assigned to the school was leaning against the wall when his holstered, duty-issued gun fired and struck a wall.

"While he was in the cafeteria, his holstered weapon unintentionally discharged while it was in the holster, and it struck a brick wall and a tile floor behind the officer. We are very fortunate that were no children, staff, nor the SRO was injured in the incident," said Lt. Troy Fergueson with Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office says there will also be a full administrative investigation.

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
