ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings says a deputy who was deliberately run over by a 15-year-old boy has serious injuries to her head, back, hand and foot.
Authorities say the deputy, Sgt. Mary Pearce, had an order to take the teen into custody on Friday morning. He ran over her as she approached a vehicle he was in. He then fled.
The sheriff says Pearce heard the car's engine revving up before she was hit. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities are seeking help from the public in locating him. Demings described him as dangerous. The teen has a previous arrest for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
Pearce has been with the agency for more than two decades.
