Miami Police and officials at one South Florida university have confirmed a student who went missing this weekend as being the victim of a shooting in the Little Havana neighborhood.
Priscilla Torres, a 19-year-old student at Barry University in Miami Shores, died over the weekend according to the school. Officials say Torres texted a friend that she was driving back to her dorm around 5 a.m. on Saturday, but never arrived.
Miami Police responded to a call of shots being fired near NW 29th Avenue and 11th Street around the same time, at which time the victim was found and rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she later died.
Officers confirmed Monday morning that Torres was that shooting victim, saying they do not know a motive in the case as their investigation continues. Police are still looking for the vehicle she was last seen driving, a white Nissan Sentra with the tag number HZBU86.
Anyone with any information in the case is asked to call Miami Police or Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers.
