Shots fired at Sarasota ambulance while paramedics respond to call, police search for shooter

SARASOTA, Fla. — A Sarasota ambulance responded to a call early Monday morning and was struck by multiple bullets, according to police.

Sarasota police responded to reports of the Sarasota County Fire Department being shot upon during a call on Goodrich Avenue at approximately 4 a.m.

The ambulance was dispatched to 2932 Goodrich Avenue in Sarasota for an individual who had fallen.

When the Fire Department arrived, the paramedics were told by the resident at the address that they did not call. While returning to the ambulance, an unknown person fired one shot at the ambulance. The person was last seen wearing a hoodie, according to a press release.

Both paramedics were able to get back into the ambulance and drive away.

While they were driving away, approximately three to five more shots were fired at the ambulance. No one was injured in the shooting. The unknown suspect ran away and has not been located.
