South Florida driver accused of hitting couple saving parking spot

DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a Florida man is accused of driving his van into a couple trying to save a parking spot for a relative.

Citing a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest report, WPLG-TV says 38-year-old Donald Lee Hicks was taken into custody Saturday on two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The report says the victims were standing in a parking spot in Dania Beach to save it for a family member when Hicks pulled up and yelled at them to move.

The report says that when they refused, Hicks, who is a white, yelled at the couple, who are black, and called them a racial epithet before hitting them with his van.

The victims were treated at the scene for knee injuries.

It's unclear if Hicks has an attorney.
