FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - A 32-year-old South Florida man whose wife signed for two packages containing more than 1,000 ecstasy pills is heading to federal prison for 17 years.

Eric Roper was sentenced Monday after a jury found him guilty in October on one count of possession with intent to sell.

Prosecutors say federal agents intercepted the packages and planned a controlled delivery in April.

But Roper's wife answered the door when an undercover postal inspector made the delivery. She called Roper who told her to sign for the packages.

He was arrested later that day after arriving home.
