WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — WPTV is getting reports from viewers about a strange object spotted in the sky.
Many viewers sent in pictures and videos of the unidentified flying object.
Dr. Marco Langbroek, a Dutch researcher and scientist, said the object was a Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missile that was being tested off the coast of Florida.
The '#UFO' seen from the #Florida coast today, was a #Trident-II SLBM (Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile) test. The launch occured from a submarine in the Atlantic.

WPTV's Janny Rodriguez spoke with Eric Vandernoot, an astronomy and physics lab coordinator at Florida Atlantic University, to learn more.
"The fact that you're seeing people from the Hobe Sound and the Bahamas seeing it simultaneously tells me that it's extremely high up in the sky," Vandernoot said.
Vandernoot was instantly among those looking for answers after viewers from the Treasure Coast to southern Palm Beach County reported seeing the object.
"This clearly seems to indicate to me it's really high up in the sky, so people should not be worried," he said.
People from as far away as the Turks and Caicos Islands also reported seeing the same light in the sky.
