PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Imagine snow tubing in Florida.
“That’s crazy to hear,” said Jacob Yundt.
It might actually become a reality if Pasco County officials approve Point Summit Incorporated’s proposal to build the state's very first snow park in Dade City, Florida.
Point Summit wants to use the 58-acre property on Bellamy Brothers Boulevard behind its Treehoppers Aerial Adventure Park.
Locals like Jacob Yundt were excited to hear about this idea, but they are skeptical about how this will work in Florida.
“I’ve been to a snow park up in North Carolina,” Yundt said. “It was pretty cool. They made their own fake snow, but how would that do in Florida?”
Florida’s climate shouldn’t be too much of a problem, because the park would only be open during the colder months between fall and winter.
“This is a great unique asset that could attract a lot of attention to Pasco County in a great positive light,” said Adam Thomas.
Thomas is the county’s tourism director. He said a snow park fits right in with Pasco County's new sports coast branding.
“We have all these great amenities that really makes Pasco unique in the sports arena,” Thomas said. “Now we’re just trying to add on to that.”
The county is currently building a new sports complex as well.
