Three people rescued from submerged vehicle

UPDATE: 23-year-old Davonte Devon Paschal, from Ft. Pierce has died from injuries.

EARLIER STORY:

Three people were rescued from a vehicle submerged in a pond in Gifford Saturday night,  according to Indian River Fire Rescue.

The incident happened around 8:45 p.m. in the 4000 block of 41 Street Square.

According to officials, the driver, 23-year-old Davonte Devon Paschal of Fort Pierce, lost control of the vehicle, struck a fence and entered the pond.

Paschal was transported to Indian River Medical Center in critical condition.

The passengers, 32-year-old Vashon Shontidra Ferguson of Boynton Beach and 2-year-old Alaysia Serenity Paschal suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
