UPDATE: The couple killed in this morning's tornado in Duette have been identified as Kate, 51, and Steven Wilson, 58. Steven M. Wilson, the couple's son, rescued his four children from the mobile home where the storm hit. The children and their father are in a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
EARLIER STORY:
Severe storms moved through Tampa Bay early Sunday morning, killing two people in Duette, knocking power out throughout Siesta Key and Sarasota and causing major property damage.
Two people were rescued from a home on Baywinds Lane in Sarasota and suffered minor injuries after their home was wiped out by the early morning storms. Officials there reported minor flooding, downed power lines, trees and signs in the city. Large trees are down at the 3200 block and 3900 block of Central Avenue. Public works officials were on scene at 32nd Street to repair a fallen stop sign.
In Duette, three adults and four juveniles were inside of a home on Albritton Road around 4 a.m. during severe weather. Two of the three adults are reported dead and the four juveniles hospitalized, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
