Riding the rails is going to cost commuters more in the new year.
Tri-Rail has announced a fare increase effective Jan. 1, 2020 and said it will vary based on the length of the trip.
The commuter rail line said, as a whole, the increase works out to less than a 10 percent change in fares.
"Our service remains a great value for those who commute regularly and for anyone who travels to and from the area’s three major airports," SFRTA/Tri-Rail Executive Director Steven L. Abrams said in a statement. "We will continue to deliver an on-time and reliable service every day of the year. We value our riders and we’re working hard for them."
Tri-Rail said it's the first time the commuter line has increased fares in more than a decade.
