MIAMI — Are you still having problems getting your children to wash their hands?
Well, a South Florida teacher created a fun little experiment that visually demonstrates the importance of a little soap and water.
The video was created by Amanda Lorenzo, a pre-kindergarten teacher, in the Miami-Dade County School District.
Lorenzo's experiment involves water, pepper and only a little bit of soap.
The video shows Lorenzo instruct a child to dip their finger into the "virus" water, which has black pepper. When the pepper doesn't move, she has her student look at her finger to check if there is any pepper on it.
Lorenzo then instructs the child to dip her finger in soap before placing it back into the water. When the student puts her soapy finger into the water, the pepper quickly spreads out to the opposite side of the dish.
On the video, you can hear the other children be amazed by the demonstration saying, "It moved!"
Lorenzo then asks the class: "You see how important it is to wash your hands with soap?"
Since the video was posted March 10, it has been viewed more than 520,000 times.
Lorenzo wrote on Instagram, "I wish you all could’ve seen how truly shocked they were that the “virus,” (pepper) moves away from the soap! So much fun and very informative."
