A careful process underway in Dania Beach as Florida East Coast Railway crews work to return 9 cars that derailed on the tracks in Port Everglades.
A spokesperson with the Broward County Sheriff and Fire Rescue Department says 9 cars out of a 20 car train carrying ethanol derailed on the tracks around 5 o'clock Tuesday evening.
There were some minimal evacuations of warehouses in the immediate industrial area.
Firefighters with Port Everglades will be monitoring the process to return the derailed cars to the tracks.
"They [FEC] determined that they are going to try to return those cars to good rail without off-loading. This is something that they've done before, that they are very proficient in. We'll be standing by monitoring with our crews until the process is complete," said Mike Jachles, Public Information Officer for the Broward County Sheriff's Office and Fire Rescue Department.
Jachles says there have been no spills or leaks and there is no threat to property.
A spokesperson for Port Everglades says the derailment is not impacting operations.
