A snake in Malaysia could break the record for the longest ever captured in the world.

A member of the rescue team told The Guardian that the reticulated python was about 26.2 feet long and weighed roughly 550 pounds.

The current Guinness World Record holder measures in at about 25 feet long.

The recently-discovered snake was initially spotted on April 7 by construction workers and was successfully wrangled by the Civil Defence Department in about 30 minutes.

However, the BBC is reporting that the animal died a few days later on Sunday after laying one egg.  The cause of death is not yet known.
