GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida standout forward Keyontae Johnson has been transferred to a Gainesville hospital after he collapsed on the court during a game against rival Florida State last weekend.

The Gators said Monday that Johnson "has been successfully transferred as planned from Tallahassee Memorial to UF Health in Gainesville by ShandsCair."

"He continues in critical but stable condition, is following simple commands and undergoing further tests," the statement, posted to the team's official Twitter account, went on to say.

However, Johnson's grandfather, Larry DeJarnett, told USA Today that his grandson was in a medically induced coma and that doctors hoped to bring him out of it Monday afternoon.

"They're just not sure," DeJarnett told the newspaper. "He may have had activity in the brain, so they induced the coma. They put him on medication to keep him sedated."

Johnson had just dunked and was coming out of the team huddle after a timeout in the first half Saturday when he collapsed on the court. He was tended to by medical personnel on the court before being taken away on a stretcher.

The teams finished the game, which the Seminoles won 83-71.

Johnson was the Southeastern Conference's preseason player of the year.
