MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins are shipping running back Kalen Ballage to an AFC East Division rival.
Ballage was traded Thursday to the New York Jets in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2021.
The 24-year-old was dealt to the Jets after playing in 24 games with six starts for the Dolphins over the past two seasons. He'll be reunited with Jets head coach Adam Gase, who drafted Ballage when he was coaching in Miami.
A 2018 fourth-round draft pick out of Arizona State, Ballage was the No. 2 running back last season behind Kenyan Drake, who was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in October 2019.
The Jets acquired Ballage a day after starting running back Le'Veon Bell disagreed with his coach's assertion that he was pulled from practice because of a tight hamstring.
Ballage ended the 2019 season on injured reserve with a leg injury. He leaves Miami having carried the football 110 times for 326 yards and four touchdowns, along with 23 receptions for 119 yards.
