The Miami Dolphins will take on the New York Giants on Monday while wearing throwbacks to honor the 50th anniversary of the team.
The special look which was announced earlier this year will mark the first time that Miami has donned throwbacks since 2003. That time around it came on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys.
The game in 2003 marked not only the 30th anniversary of Miami's championship team, but also the 75th anniversary of the National Football League.
This is Miami's only "Monday Night Football" game this season, and that appears to be why the Dolphins chose this contest for the throwback look. While both teams enter the game at 5-7, the Giants have a much stronger chance at a playoff run.
New York is tied for first place in their division entering Sunday's action, while Miami sits in last place in its division.
While the Dolphins have not been eliminated from the postseason, it would take an improbable run and a great deal of help. Miami is in 11th place in the AFC entering Sunday and is also on the wrong end of several tie-breaking scenarios.
Miami has plenty to play for however as it tries to avoid a losing season. Interim head coach Dan Campbell and his staff could also have their fates decided over these last four weeks. A strong finish to the year could convince owner Stephen Ross to give Campbell a full-time opportunity at the gig.
Despite winning last week, Ryan Tannehill had another sub par outing. Miami's quarterback has seen his QB rating dip each game over the last three weeks. Tannehill was quiet for most of the win over Baltimore as Miami relied on its running game more. After unleashing a season-high 58 passes in New York a week earlier, Tannehill threw only 19 against the Ravens.
Working in Tannehill's favor is good news in regards to one of his main targets. After missing some practice time this week, wide receiver Jarvis Landry was listed on Miami's injury report. However, Landry is expected to play and see his normal workload. Miami had listed a knee injury for Landry and a status of probable on its report.
The Dolphins and Giants will get things going on Monday at 8:30 p.m.
