Hurricane Joaquin continues to cause damage across the Bahamas today before it heads north toward the East Coast tonight.
The Category 4 storm is currently causing hurricane force winds, a storm surge with waves six to twelve feet higher than normal and heavy rain totaling up to a foot and a half.
Forecast models have recently come together in the last 24 hours, and nearly all of them avoid a US landfall.
The National Hurricane Center forecast puts the storm in between the U.S. coast and Bermuda before moving more to the northeast and out into the Atlantic.
Even though the storm looks like it'll avoid a direct hit with the United States, that doesn't mean the United States won't feel effects from the storm.
Joaquin is a major Category 4 storm, and it's likely to remain a hurricane through early next week.
A front moving off the East Coast will interact with the storm, and that could cause some strong, gusty winds over the weekend.
In addition to the wind, heavy rain is expected across the Carolinas today and this weekend with more than a foot expected through Sunday.
Hurricane Joaquin is the first category four storm of the season.
