With the recent global threat of the coronavirus, most adults are more aware than ever of the importance of correct and frequent hand-washing. Getting kids to wash their hands properly on a regular basis, however, can be a struggle. One teacher came up with a clever hack to help make sure kids wash their hands enough, and you’re going to want to steal it ASAP.

Mrs. Woods teaches third grade at with the Hallsville School District in Hallsville, Missouri. To encourage her students to regularly wash their hands, she stamps their hands in the morning. By the end of the day, they should have washed their hands enough that the stamp is gone.

If they accomplish this goal, they earn a prize. Genius!

Woods took to her Facebook page to share her great idea:

“We are doing our best in room 550 to keep the germs away,” she wrote alongside some photos of students’ hands’ stamped with “Mrs. Woods.”

“Students got stamps on their hands this morning. If it’s gone by the end of the day from washing their hands, they get a prize. We are trying.”

People thought the teacher’s trick was brilliant, and the post has since gone viral, racking up 52,000 shares and nearly 5,000 shares.

“I’m stamping my own kid with this idea in mind every morning,” wrote Ambrea Westmoreland.

“I need to try this at work,” wrote Mandie Duckworth. “I’m noticing adults are worse than kids.”

In order to get the maximum germ-fighting benefit from hand-washing, make sure you rub with soap for at least 20 seconds. You can sing the alphabet song once or “Happy Birthday” twice to ensure you hit this benchmark. Be sure to dry your hands with a clean towel or let them air dry.
