14 looters arrested in Houston area during Harvey

Posted

The Harris County District Attorney's Office announced on Tuesday that 14 individuals have been charged with looting in recent days as the Houston area is recovering from record rainfall tied to Hurricane Harvey.

According to Kim Ogg, the Harris County District Attorney, the 14 people charged with looting will face additional charges for committing the crimes during a crisis.

"People displaced or harmed in this storm are not going to be easy prey," Ogg said. "Anyone who tries to take advantage of this storm to break into homes or businesses should know that they are going to feel the full weight of the law."

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said during a press conference Tuesday that not only are his forces focused on search and recovery, but at enforcing laws and arresting criminals. Acevedo said his department helped perform 3,500 water rescues since Saturday.
