Governor Rick Scott tweeted out Thursday morning that 100% of his focus is on rescue and recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.
He said crews have begun clearing debris and trying to restore power.
"This morning Florida's Gulf Coast, Panhandle, and Big Bend are waking up to unimaginable destruction," Gov. Scott said during a morning news conference. "Homes are gone, businesses are gone. Roads and infrastructure along the storm's path have been destroyed. This hurricane was an absolute monster and the damage left in its wake is still yet to be fully understood."
Governor Scott urged residents not to go out and explore the damage.
President Trump issued a major disaster declaration following a request from the governor.
Following my request, @POTUS has declared a major disaster for Hurricane Michael. I will continue to stay in contact with all of our federal, state and local partners as we respond to this devastating storm. This will allow more federal help to flow to our communities.
