Tropical wave in Eastern Atlantic has high chance of development

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A tropical wave associated with Invest 95L off the coast of Africa has a 60% chance of formation over two days and 90% over the next seven days as it moves north-northwest.

A tropical depression could form in two to three days as this disturbance moves at 15 to 20 mph toward the the Lesser Antilles by Friday.

Also, a tropical wave over western Africa has a 30% chance of formation over the next seven days.

Tropical Storm Gert, has sustained winds of 50 mph and will move north-northeast over the next few days and will dissipate into a trough of low pressure by Monday.

Katia degraded into a depression with sustained winds of 35 mph, and was about 975 miles north of the Cabo Verde Islands in the Eastern Atlantic. Katia will move north-northwest and degenerate into a remnant low by Monday, and dissipate in a few days.

Gert and Katia pose no threat to land.
