Just last week, two more people were struck and killed by lightning — a man was walking near his home in Largo, Florida, and a woman was camping in Palo, Iowa.
That brings lightning strike fatalities for the year up to seven.
The number of people in the United States who die from lightning strikes has been on the decline since 1940 when we started keeping track.
That's mostly thanks to education and outreach to the general public.
